A Welcome Home

You want to create a home that is warm and welcoming, one where friends and family feel comfortable and at ease. A gracious home need not be difficult or expensive to create; in fact we all know that the warmest homes are filled with love and kindness no matter how humble they may be.

Perhaps you have a small and somewhat dated bathroom and resist entertaining lest folks think poorly of you. Rest assured that even the grandest of bathrooms appointed with marble floors and oversized bathroom cabinet mirrors, gold-plated fixtures and elegant bathroom hardware has no bearing on the heart of a family nor does it make a party or family gathering more meaningful or special. Take a good look at your bathroom – clean it from top to bottom – elbow grease is free and with just a bit of extra cleaning your bathroom will sparkle. A simple update such as a set of new guest towels, a new shower curtain or a replacement toilet seat is all you really need to make any bathroom guest-worthy and a bud vase with one or two carefully chosen fresh flowers will draw attention to what you wish to be seen and away from what you’d prefer guests not focus on.

Should you plan to host overnight guests the same holds true; take a good look at the bedroom you will offer and take the time to clean it, taking care to vacuum the rug, shake out the drapes and wipe down the molding. Put fresh light bulbs in any light fixtures and make sure they work. A good set of modern bedding will update the look of a room in minutes and you’d be surprised at how affordable bedding set can be. Another strategically placed bud vase or candle will add to the ambience.
